  • Within limits, you can be charged higher premiums based on the health, risk, and demographic characteristics of your group. For small employers, West Virginia limits the difference in premiums and the annual increase that can be charged. Even within these limits, if someone in your group is sick, you might be charged considerably more for coverage when you first buy it or at renewal. If you have questions about your group health plan premiums, contact the Department of Insurance.
  • For groups with more than 50 employees, West Virginia does not limit premium variations when coverage is first issued or renewed.
