  • In general, you can be charged higher premiums based on the health, risk, and demographic characteristics of your group. Virginia generally does not limit the difference in premiums and the annual increase that can be charged to small employers.
  • If you buy a standard or essential small employer plan, there are limits on what you can be charged based on the health status, age, and other characteristics of your group. However, few employers choose to purchase the standard or essential plans.
