- South Carolina law limits how much small employers can be charged for health insurance. Within limits, premiums for small group health insurance policies can vary based on health status, age, industry, and other characteristics of those in your group. Even within these limits, however, premiums can be significantly higher if someone in your group has a serious health condition. If you have 51 or more eligible employees, there are no limits on premium variations. Check with the South Carolina Insurance Department if you have any questions about your group plan premiums.
- For small employers, South Carolina places some limits on annual increases that can be charged.
