Help is available to certain low-income residents of Mississippi who cannot afford to buy health insurance. Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and the Mississippi Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program offer free or subsidized health insurance coverage, direct medical services or other help at little or no cost to you. In addition, the Federal Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC) Program provides tax credits to early retirees and some workers who lose their jobs or whose work hours and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports. This chapter provides summary information about these programs and contact information for further assistance.
