Help is available to certain low-income residents of Maine who cannot afford to buy health insurance.  Medicaid (also known as MaineCare), the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program, The Dirigo Health Program and other programs offers free or subsidized health insurance coverage, direct medical services or other help. In addition, the federal Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC) Program provides tax credits to early retirees and some workers who lose their jobs or whose work hours and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports.
